In January of 2015 the park district was awarded a $363,500 OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development) Grant by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The grant was suspended in March of 2015 and reinstated in August of 2016. This project began in summer of 2017 and was completed in June 2018.
This project included Itasca's first Dog Park (opened Spring 2019), a nature-based play area with a shelter, grill, and baggo games. Interpretive nature trails are included with an accessible 1/3 mile boardwalk loop and habitat restoration.
