Ray Franzen Bird Sanctuary Project 2017

In January of 2015 the park district was awarded a $363,500 OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development) Grant by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The grant was suspended in March of 2015 and reinstated in August of 2016. This project began in summer of 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2017.

This project will include Itasca's first Dog Park, and Heron's Hideaway; a nature-based play area with a shelter, grill and baggo games. Interpretive nature trails will be included with a boardwalk and habitat restoration.
Location: bordering the Itasca Softball Complex at 706 N. Rohlwing Road
